At-home date night: we are the best

We had an impressive Monday night at-home date night last night. A while ago I impulsively bought some bulk arborio rice, so we finally used it and made some risotto with carnival squash, onions, marjoram and white wine. We also finally used the Millennium Restaurant’s cookbook for the first time (I think Nick’s had it for longer than we’ve been together, so a really long time). We used some some fancy tempeh made by Barry’s Tempeh that I got at Smorgasburg and breaded and baked it with the Millennium’s recipe for herb crusted tempeh. Finally, we sauteed up some braising greens with mushrooms, fennel, more white wine and some lemon juice and zest. The orange bell peppers were purely decorational. This was all restaurant-level fancy. The tempeh could have used a sauce, and the cookbook recommends a ginger orange sauce. But other than that one slight lacking part of the meal, it was a pretty good at-home date night. Then immediately after eating we fell asleep on the couch in front of the TV for an hour before crawling to bed.
